Welcome to the Japan Pavilion, where the gardens are tranquil, the sake is cold, and the shopping is… intense (in the best way).
Tucked between America and Morocco, Japan is one of those spots that feels like a peaceful reset in the middle of World Showcase. You’ve got koi ponds, shade (if you know where to look), and drinks that somehow manage to be both refreshing and Instagram-worthy.
This guide walks you through what to eat, drink, and explore in the Japan Pavilion, whether you’re here for a Violet Sake, a sushi break, or just need a shady spot to recover from Germany.

What to Eat in the Japan Pavilion
Food in Japan leans fresh, flavorful, and lighter than some of the heavier pavilions around World Showcase, and that’s a very good thing if you’re pacing yourself for a full loop.

Our top picks:
- Sushi at Katsura Grill
This quiet quick service spot is nestled in the back gardens, and it’s one of our favorite places to escape the crowds. The sushi is solid, the vibe is peaceful, and there are shady tables surrounded by koi ponds. - Kakigōri from Kabuki Café
Japanese shaved ice, available in flavors like melon, strawberry, or rainbow. Add sweet milk on top for maximum nostalgia. This one’s a heat-busting classic. - Yuzu Miso Wings at Katsura Grill
A little sweet, a little tangy, a lot delicious. The portion is solid and perfect for sharing (or hoarding). - Matcha Mochi from Mitsukoshi
If you’re wandering through the giant Mitsukoshi shop, head to the back for packaged Japanese snacks. The green tea mochi is chewy, refreshing, and totally unique.

What to Drink in the Japan Pavilion
Japan has some of the most beloved drinks in EPCOT, including a couple we keep coming back for every single trip.

Don’t miss:
- Violet Sake
Sweet, floral, and weirdly crushable. It’s sake, purple pear, and lime juice in a combo that shouldn’t work… but absolutely does. Find it at The Garden House. - Frozen Kirin
Draft beer topped with frozen foam to keep it cold in the Florida sun. It’s like a novelty beer hat, in the best possible way. - Sake Slushies from Kabuki Café
Slushy, boozy, and available in rotating flavors like Blood Orange and Blackberry. These are fun and easy to sip while strolling. - Plum Wine
Light, sweet, and very easy to drink. Available at several spots, including Katsura Grill. - Sake Flights (Mitsukoshi or Garden House)
If you want to go all in, grab a sake flight and try a mix of sweet, dry, and sparkling varieties. It’s a great way to expand your palate or just feel fancy in flip-flops.

What to Do in the Japan Pavilion (Besides Eat and Drink)
Japan has no ride, but don’t let that fool you because there’s a ton to see, do, and explore.

Watch the Matsuriza Drummers
You’ll hear them before you see them, and then you’ll stand there, totally hypnotized. These traditional taiko drummers perform throughout the day on the pagoda stage. Check the My Disney Experience app for showtimes.
Visit the Bijutsu-kan Gallery
This little museum inside the pavilion is easy to miss, but worth your time. It’s quiet, air-conditioned, and the current “Kawaii” exhibit is surprisingly cool (and adorable).
Explore Mitsukoshi Department Store
Massive. Air-conditioned. Dangerous for your wallet. This place has everything: anime merch, Japanese candy, chopsticks, sake sets, and samurai swords. There’s even a sake bar and the Pick-a-Pearl station if you’re feeling lucky.

Walk the Gardens
The shaded path behind the pavilion is one of the best-kept secrets in World Showcase. It’s quiet, lush, and the perfect place to recharge with a drink in hand.
Snap Some Pics
The big red torii gate overlooking the lagoon is one of the most iconic EPCOT photo spots. Look for PhotoPass photographers — or just grab a few shots on your phone while your group drinks sake and pretends to be reflective.

Final Thoughts
The Japan Pavilion is peaceful, stylish, and sneakily one of the best places to spend way too much time. It doesn’t have a thrill ride, but between the drinks, the snacks, and the vibe, you won’t miss it.
Come for the Violet Sake. Stay for the koi ponds and mochi. Leave with a pearl, a plushie, and a slight buzz.
