How Late Can You Be for a Disney Dining Reservation? (And What Happens If You Miss It)

Chocolate clock dessert with raspberry sauce, for a Disney dining reservation.

You fought the app. You beat the 5:45 AM wake-up. You booked Space 220, Geo-82, or Cinderella’s Royal Table. And now… you’re late.

Maybe the Monorail broke down. Maybe your Jungle Cruise boat got stuck mid-pun. Maybe a thunderstorm rolled in and made it impossible to cross the park without getting zapped.

Whatever the reason, here’s what to know if you’re running behind for your Disney dining reservation, and what to do if you miss it entirely.

TL;DR: How Late Is Too Late?

  • Disney gives a 15-minute grace period at most table service spots, but it’s not a guarantee. That said, if you show up, and you’re kind, there’s a very good chance they’ll try to squeeze you in.
  • After that, your table can be given away, and you may be marked as a no-show.
  • If you’re significantly late (20–30+ minutes), it’s up to the restaurant whether they can squeeze you in.
  • If your reservation has a cancellation policy, you’ll be charged a fee if you’re a no-show, usually $10 per person, but it can be more for signature dining.

What Actually Happens If You’re Running Late?

Here’s what to expect if you’re not going to make it on time:

0–15 Minutes Late: You’re Fine

No sweat. You still qualify for check-in in the My Disney Experience app. Most restaurants build this buffer in. Just head to the host stand and check in like normal.

15–30 Minutes Late: It’s a Toss-Up

Your original reservation will likely disappear from the app. But if you show up and politely explain the situation, most Cast Members will re-add you to the waitlist, assuming they still have room.

30+ Minutes Late: You’re at the Mercy of the Host Stand

At this point, your spot is probably long gone. BUT, depending on how busy the restaurant is, they may still fit you in, eventually. Just don’t expect to be seated right away. You may be treated like a walk-up.

What Happens If You Miss It Completely?

If you ghost your reservation, you’ll be marked a no-show, and your card will be charged if the restaurant had a cancellation policy. Here’s what that usually looks like:

Restaurant Type
No-Show Fee
Most table service
$10 per person
Signature dining
$25–$75 per person
Prepaid experiences
Full charge

Pro Tip: Always check your specific reservation details in the app for fee info, especially if you’re booking character meals or dining packages.

What Should You Do If You Know You’re Going to Be Late?

Option 1: Call Disney Dining

Dial 407-WDW-DINE and follow the prompts for same-day dining help. If there’s a delay outside your control (hello, Skyliner), they can flag your reservation.

Option 2: Use the App to Modify or Cancel

You can often push a reservation to a later time or cancel without a fee if you act quickly. Just don’t wait until after your time has passed, then it’s too late.

Option 3: Go to the Host Stand Anyway

Even if you’re super late, showing up in person gives you the best shot. Be kind. Be honest. And maybe don’t mention that your delay involved a last-minute Dole Whip run.

Tips to Avoid Being Late in the First Place

  • Arrive 15 minutes early (that’s when check-in opens anyway).
  • Pad your schedule if you’re using Disney buses, boats, or Monorails.
  • Avoid stacking reservations too close to Lightning Lane return windows, especially now that we’re using the new Lightning Lane Multi Pass.

Final Thoughts: Don’t Panic, But Don’t Push It

This isn’t Olive Garden, every table is booked and then some. But Disney Cast Members are magicians when they can be. Show up, explain the delay, and cross your fingers. A little kindness goes a *long* way.
